On Tuesday, March 29, 2016, federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau took advantage of his visit to Saint-Valentin, in the Montérégie area, to announce an investment of $500 million over five years, starting this year, to increase access to high-speed internet in rural communities.
This program is designed to stimulate growth of the middle class, particularly by making it easier for rural communities to participate in the digital economy, now and in the future.
Needless to say, this news has delighted many local officials, as such an investment will allow a greater number of people living in rural and remote communities to benefit from the advances made in recent years to e-learning, telehealth and remote access to government services, among other things.
This announcement is timely given the current economic climate. Indeed, access to high-speed internet means greater access to the world, including a better chance to make yourself or your products and services known, and thus to prosper.
In addition, better access to high-speed internet will allow communities to innovate and expand beyond their regional borders.
In short, this is great news on a socioeconomic level!
For its part, Skynet Telecom is pleased to contribute to this new program, providing you, as always, with efficient products and services tailored to your needs.
